Kayaking or Canoeing The Buffalo National River

Looking for an unforgettable paddling adventure during your stay at Grassy Road Cabins & Camping? One of the region’s most beloved outdoor excursions is floating the lower section of the Buffalo River with equipment rented from Crockett’s Canoe Rental, located just a short drive away. Whether you’re planning a gentle half-day float or a multi-day paddling escape, Crockett’s offers canoes, kayaks, life jackets, and shuttle services to tailor the trip to your level and schedule. Crockett's Canoe Rental.

One of the most popular floats in the area begins at South Maumee Access Point, meanders past the scenic sandstone bluffs of the Ozarks to Spring Creek Access, and ends at the picturesque Dillard’s Ferry Access Point. These three put-in/take-out sites are all easily accessible, close-by, and offer varying distances suited for novices and experienced paddlers alike.

Staying two or more nights gives you the flexibility to float one of these stretches in the morning, spend the afternoon exploring your cabin or the campground’s amenities, and then unwind under the stars by your fire pit or in one of the hammock zones. The Buffalo River’s lower section is typically Class I and very family-friendly, especially when water levels are good.
